Rawshé Rock, The Rock of love or .. Death!
Let’s start with Rawshé, Beirut’s seaside, A place where you find everyone, all the time, 5A.M, people are wearing their sports wear trying to lose a few pounds, their poor dogs might think that it’s the end of time and everyone’s running for their lives!!, 11pm, I jumped here because it’s the earliest time I woke up when I was there!!, some people are still running!, some are waiting for a cab, by the way, cab drivers there are amazing, they could come into the shop, handcuff you, and go : “You need a cab sir?”, I think there’s too many cabs there that they started fighting over passengers who don’t even know what’s goin on! Who knows, at night, you find a lot of people just walking to have some fresh air, although there’s still some late runners who are trying to catch the marathon!!, Lovers also find Rawshé a nice place to walk and have their little sweet talks which could be great if those instant photo guys won’t bother them every two seconds!!, ok enough with the Rawshe, let’s talk about the rock …
I’m not intending to talk about what geologists said on it’s formation and this nonsense, when you stand in front of that rock, you’ll just go: “ where did that come from? Why here? Why shaped like this???” very big by the way, about a 100 meters from the shore 80 meters high, It’s called by two names that make it even more exiting, one is the Rock of love, that I said a part of because of the gathering of lovers in front of it everyday, the second name is scarier, the Rock of Death, see, the seaside (Rawshe) that lies in front of the rock, technically, the rock lies in front of it, is the highest one along the Mediterranean in Beirut, or that’s what I think, it’s also the most accessible by people, this made this place common for people who wanted to suicide … By common I don’t mean that it happens every day, but I guess it has happened more than once over history..
Another amazing thing about this rock, is that it appears beautiful in pictures, no matter where you’re standing, or who you were, a 10 years old kid with an old cell phone, or a professional photographer, just point and shoot, and you’ve got one hell of a poster!!
Best Regards,
Mohammed H. Zaid Ali
